Sharan's experiences here

Sharan Merriam, professor of adult education, U of GA is my best friend and has been here in Malaysia for a year. She will leave a few weeks after I go back to WA. She has been helping doctoral candidates and faculty at U of Putra Malaysia with their research and also studying the women in Malaysia who have breast cancer and their decisions to choose spiritual healing or medical care. This study has taken her to the villages and jungles of Malaysia with resulting stories that are sure to make their way into articles or maybe another book.

We met a doctoral candidate today from Iran. We met in a restaurant that served Iranian food andit was delicious. While in the restaurant a huge storm blew up and soaked everyone and even the gekcos ran for cover. We discussed the invitation we now have to visit this woman in Iran and to get a special tour.

We are both working on our papers to be presented to the research conference in 2 weeks. I have 4 presentations - for Oncology Nurses about patient care, a keynote on helping communities develop a plan for their community health care; a session on the progress of the project on breast cancer awareness and a training session for the women volunteers who talk with other women about breast cancer.

I am finally navigating through the challenges of technology to check my emails and handling problems with my classes. We are headed to Bali for the weekend.
